 Educational Research-

The systematic attempt to gain a better understanding of the educational process in terms of efficiency means educational research.

According to W. M. Traverse, “The activity which is directed towards the development of science behavior in educational situation is educational research.”

According to P.M. Cook,” Educational research aims to make contribution towards the solution of problem in the field of education by using scientific method.”

Need of research in education-

1.    The base of education is philosophy, psychology and sociology. There is a fast       change in all these three aspects with time so there is a need of research in education.

2.     There is a need of development of human mind which require educational   research.

3.     The educational research is necessary to get solution to the problem like individual differences and different intelligence level.

4.     The educational research is necessary to develop innovation.

5.     There is a change in education conception. Hence education research is required.

  6. There is a need of framing new curriculum, textbooks, method of teaching and
     evaluation process due to rapid change in science and technology. The educational           research is required to accept these changes in smooth way

Main characteristics of research-

1.     Research is based on observed experience or empirical evidence.

2.      Research directs towards the solution of the problem.

3.      Research determines the relation between two variables.

4.      Research demands accurate observation and description.

5.      Research is an honest and exhaustive process.

6.      Research involves collection of new data from first hand resource or use of existing            data for new purpose.

7.      Research is carefully recorded and made available to the other researchers.
